UK vs. SPAIN.

Interestingly, this week, Uswitch published the results of a study showing that the UK was the worst place in Europe to live, with Spain and France topping the charts as the best places to live because of the quality of life. France has held the top spot now for the past three years followed closely by Spain.

Now all of us who have made the move from old Blighty to Spain have found that the quality of life is alot better here. The stress levels are instantly lower and the "mañana complex" of Spain, which although can be irritating can easily be adapted to, means that nothing can ever be done in a hurray.- it's more of a case of it will happen when it will happen and not before. After being on the receiving end of a lot of "mañanas" I have come to expect that my car will be in the mecanics for a week and not the estimated 3 days, or that the package that was shipped overnight won't actually arrive for atleast 3 days or maybe won't arrive at all as the postal address was written down wrong! However, none of this stresses me out anymore, infact it takes a lot to really make my blood boil,  something I have in contrast to my UK cousins who at the sight of a 5 minute delay will be updating their Facebook status' with a suitable rant.

Stress, as you can imagine reduces your life expectancy, a factor that was also featured in the Uswitch survey along with petrol prices, energy, food, alcohol and tabacco.

My remedy for all of those who would like to enjoy some of the best quality of living in Europe is to invest in Spain, maybe purchase a little holiday home to enjoy the relaxed lifestyle in your 2 week break or over long weekends...or even take the next step and make Spain your home.

First Impressions Count in the Spanish Property Market

Recently I was reading a number of web blogs and newspaper reports that suggest that the impression of a property and the decision wheter to buy or not will be made by the purchasers within 10-15 minutes. Thats a fast time to make such a costly decision-but its true! I predict that many people make the decision within seconds rather than minutes, but what does this really mean?

Actually its rather simple, it means that first impressions count. The whole "Don't judge a book by its Cover" expression simply flies out the window when its comes to purchasing property and not only that, its normally the lady of the house who will make the final decision (sorry men!).

First impressions really do count, I cannot remember the times that I have shown a property where washing is hanging inside because the weather hasn't been so kind that day or there's dirty dishes laying around, beds upmade, the list is endless!

To make the first impression count in your property make sure that it is decluttered (take everything away that you don't need and store it), clean up, leave hanging the washing for after the viewing, turn the tv off (its distracting!), open the windows and persian blinds, make the beds, pick up the toys, put the dog bed outside! Also a few flowers by the front door, a freshly painted/varnished front door and a weed free garden are all bonus points!

Things in the Cases Xalo office have been busy recently, especially after the summer break! Not only catching up but we started a new advertising campaign which created a network between all the local estate agents .- a fantastic advertising tool especially when you consider that many properties have been on the market for over a year.
